Privacy Policy
Last updated September 25, 2026
The short version: your screenshots, recordings, annotations, and OCR search index stay on your Mac. We never see them. We only collect what's necessary to sell you a license and email it to you.
What stays entirely on your Mac
ScreenClipr captures, annotations, the recording pipeline, the searchable OCR library index, and your preferences are all stored locally on your Mac (in your user Library folder). None of it is uploaded to us or to any third party. The app does not phone home to report usage, and it contains no analytics or tracking SDK of any kind.
The app does make two kinds of network requests, and neither carries anything about your captures: it contacts our license server when you activate a license, and it checks GitHub for a newer version (you can turn automatic update checks off in Preferences).
What we collect, and why
We collect the minimum needed to run the business:
- Purchase & license data. When you buy a license, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details — we never see or store them. We receive your email address, and we generate and store a license key, its issue/expiry dates, and (to enforce the per-purchase device limit) a one-way hash of a hardware identifier for each Mac you activate the license on. That hash cannot be reversed back into anything identifying about your device.
- Transactional email. We use MailerSend to deliver your license key and any support replies. Your email address is shared with MailerSend solely to send you that mail.
- Contact form submissions. If you write to us, we receive the name, email, and message you provide, plus your IP address (used only to rate-limit abuse of the form — we don't log or store the message itself beyond forwarding it to our support inbox).
- Ordinary web server logs. Like virtually every website, our web server logs basic request metadata (IP address, page requested, timestamp) for operational and security purposes. We don't use this for tracking or advertising. We do count, in aggregate, how often the download link is used and which link or site it came from (for example a
utm_sourcetag in the link, or the referring site), using only these same logs; no script or cookie is involved on our side, and we don't build profiles of individual visitors.
Third parties we use
- Stripe — payment processing. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- MailerSend — transactional email delivery. See MailerSend's privacy policy.
- GitHub — hosts the app download itself (the compiled, notarized app binary, not your data).
We do not sell your data, ever, to anyone.
Cookies
This website does not set tracking or advertising cookies. Stripe's checkout page (hosted on stripe.com, not screenclipr.com) may set its own cookies as part of processing your payment securely — that's governed by Stripe's own privacy policy, not ours.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your purchase/license record at any time — contact us and we'll handle it within a reasonable time. Since captures and recordings never leave your Mac, deleting them is entirely in your control — just delete them locally.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
